Article Writing Services for Authors, Experts and Businesses

Our article writing services cover the pieces that run under your name: SEO articles for your website, bylined pieces for the trade press in your field, and essays that keep an author visible between books. We're a book publisher, so we handle an article the way we'd handle a manuscript. It starts from your brief, and you approve an outline before we write a word.

Good articles take time most experts don't have

You know your subject better than any writer you could hire. What you probably don't have is a clear Tuesday afternoon, so the article you meant to write in the spring is still a note on your phone in the fall.

The usual shortcut makes things worse. Cheap content fills a page and says nothing, and the people you want to reach can tell. A trade editor reads a few lines of a generic pitch and moves on. A prospective client skims a vague article and decides you're like everyone else. Search engines have moved the same way: Google's guidance on helpful, people-first content asks whether a page shows real expertise and leaves a reader satisfied, which a stitched-together article rarely does.

A good article keeps bringing people to your site long after you've forgotten writing it. It puts your name in front of an industry. For an author, it's something to point to while the next book gets written.

You have the ideas. We'll do the writing.

What our article writing services cover

We write for your website, for trade publications and for your email list, with one method for all three.

SEO articles for your website

We start with the search behind the article: the phrase people type, what they hope to find, and what already ranks for it. The headings are built around that question. For a steady flow rather than single pieces, our SEO content writing and blog writing services are set up for ongoing programs.

Bylined thought leadership articles

Op-eds, expert commentary and LinkedIn articles in your voice. An op-ed argues one point hard; a LinkedIn article can take its time. You give us your view and your notes, we write it, and you correct whatever we got wrong.

Magazine and trade publication features

Researched features for the outlets your clients and peers actually read. A trade audience already knows the basics, so the piece spends its words on what's new to them. Longer print work has its own page under magazine writing. A long, sourced report that a company hands to buyers is a different document, and our white paper writing services cover it.

Articles for authors building a platform

Guest essays, expert pieces and op-eds that bring readers back to your book. This is home turf for us, since we publish books, and articles timed around a launch sit well alongside our book marketing work.

Newsletter and email articles

The long piece at the center of a newsletter issue, the one subscribers open the email to read. We write it to fit the space your template gives it, in the tone your readers already expect from you.

News-style and announcement articles

Company news and milestones written as an article your customers will finish: what happened, why it matters to them, and what changes for them next.

Not sure which you need? Say where the article will run, and we'll point you to the right kind. For placement, a full newsletter issue or a formal media release, see guest posting, newsletter writing and press release writing.

03

What every article includes

  • A brief built from you. Your notes, your past writing or your answers to our questions, so the piece starts from what you know and how you say it.
  • An outline you approve. The angle, the headings and the order the argument runs in.
  • Keyword research for SEO pieces. A target phrase we choose with you, briefed against real search demand.
  • Original work. Written from your brief and nobody else's, and for SEO pieces by someone who reads the subject.
  • Ready to submit. A piece for a magazine or trade outlet is written to the length and format its submission guidelines set, so the editor can get straight to your argument.
  • Your changes. Your edits to the draft go in before the final file is delivered.
  • Your byline. The finished piece runs under your name.

How we write your article, in four steps

Step 01
Tell us what you need

Send the topic, where the article will run, the length and your deadline. Useful extras: the outlet's submission guidelines if you have them, two or three articles you admire, any figures or stories you want used, and anything that must stay out. A rough idea is fine; we'd rather hear it early than polished. We read it and send a written quote, and the outline work starts once you've accepted it.

Step 02
Approve the outline

We work from your brief and notes, then send the outline for you to approve. Nothing gets drafted until you're happy with the shape, because changing direction at this stage takes minutes instead of days. It's also the place to say if a story or figure from your brief has gone missing.

Step 03
Review the draft

The article is written and sent to you. Read it aloud once; you'll hear quickly where it doesn't sound like you. Then check every name, number and claim, and tell us anything you'd rather not say in public. Don't be polite about it.

Step 04
Delivery

You get the final file, ready to paste into your site or send to an editor. Preview it where it'll run before it goes live.

05

Have a topic and a deadline?

Send them over. The quote is free, and nothing's chargeable until you say yes in writing. If the price doesn't suit you, that's the end of it.

06

What article writing costs

At our published $0.30 a word, here's what a blog or SEO article costs at common lengths.

ArticleLengthFee
Short blog or SEO articleUp to 800 words$240 (the minimum)
Standard SEO article1,200 words$360
Long-form SEO article2,000 words$600

Length is the only thing that moves the price of an SEO article. The minimum covers anything up to 800 words, so two 400-word ideas often work better merged into one piece at $240 than written as two at $480.

Bylined op-eds, trade features and newsletter pieces vary too much for a per-word rate, so we read your brief first, then quote a fixed fee. A 900-word op-ed from notes you already have, with weeks to spare, costs much less than a 2,500-word trade feature built from interviews with every figure checked.

Scope is agreed before work starts, and your written quote sets out what's covered and when each part is paid. There's no hourly billing.

A series of SEO articles is charged article by article, so four 1,200-word articles come to $1,440. Share the schedule and the quote will give the dates.

Why a book publisher writes better articles

Publishers first

We're an independent publisher in Lake City, Colorado, up in the San Juan Mountains, and we've been publishing since 1996. You can browse the books in our portfolio. We ghostwrite and edit books, and that work comes down to taking what an author knows and shaping it into chapters a reader finishes. A good bylined article is the same job, only shorter.

One person to talk to

You deal with one editor or project manager, by name. If three colleagues will comment on the draft, gather their notes into one reply, so the changes don't pull against each other.

Your name on the byline

Nobody reading the article sees our name. The NDA is signed first, the copyright belongs to you, and nothing you sign with us takes ownership of the piece. Run it on your site, send it to an editor or fold it into a book later.

An honest no

If your article sits outside what we can do well, we'll tell you up front and say what it needs instead.

Olivia Adams came to us with a book idea. Her review touches on the thing you'll care about most in an article under your name: whether it still sounds like you.

“Working with the Western Reflections Publishing team was a great experience. I came to them with a book idea but needed help structuring it into a finished manuscript. They took the time to learn my objectives right away, communication stayed consistent throughout, and the writers did a great job keeping my voice while improving the structure and flow. I was impressed by how well the finished manuscript reflected my vision.”

Who our article writing is for

  • Authors with a book out, or one on the way, who want a byline in the places their readers already look.
  • Consultants, coaches and specialists who want bylined pieces in the trade press their clients read, and who can spare time for a few questions but not a weekend at the keyboard.
  • Business owners who need search-friendly articles on their own website that sound like the business, not a template.
  • Nonprofits and organizations telling their story to members, donors and funders.

We're especially at home with subjects that match our own back catalogue: regional history, biography and memoir, and Colorado and the American West. We write well beyond them too.

If your articles keep circling the same big idea, it may be a book waiting to happen. Our business book writing services are the next step for experts who are ready.

Questions people ask before they hire us

"Will it sound like me?"

Yes. We write from your notes and your answers to our questions, so the phrasing starts out as yours. Where a line still doesn't sound like you, flag it and we'll rewrite it.

"Can a writer outside my industry get this right?"

We don't try to out-know you. We ask the questions a smart outsider would ask, write from your answers and keep the terms your readers expect.

"I paid for cheap articles before and couldn't use them."

Then you know what an article written without you looks like. Ours starts from your brief and your notes, and you know the price before you say yes.

Frequently asked questions

Questions we get asked

How much do article writing services cost?

For blog and SEO articles it's $0.30 a word with a $240 minimum, so a 1,200-word article comes to $360 and a 2,000-word article to $600. Bylined, magazine and newsletter pieces get a fixed fee after we've read your brief, set by the interviewing, fact-checking and deadline involved.

Why not pay a few cents a word?

Because you get what the rate allows: an article written fast from whatever the writer found online, and rarely checked against what you know. Google's position on AI-generated content is that pages made mainly to manipulate rankings break its spam policies, however they're produced. At $0.30 a word you're paying for research and for a writer who works from what you know, which is the part a cheap article skips.

How long does an article take?

Your quote gives the date. Three things set it: length, how much research or interviewing the piece needs, and how quickly you get back to us at each stage. A 1,200-word SEO article on a subject you've already got notes for moves faster than one that needs two conversations with you first.

Can you edit an article I've already written?

Yes. Send the draft and we'll read it before quoting. If it's close, it gets the same copy editing we give books: grammar, consistency and a check of facts against your own material. If it needs more, our rewriting service keeps your ideas and voice. Either way you get one price, in writing, before we start.

How is article writing different from blog writing?

Articles tend to be longer and more researched, often written for another publication or a named expert's byline. Blog posts are usually shorter, more frequent and live on your own site. We write both; for a regular schedule, see our blog writing services.

Are your articles SEO friendly?

Yes. Every blog and SEO article is built around a search phrase we agree with you, and it goes in the headings where it reads naturally rather than in every paragraph. We still write for the person searching first, because a reader who gets a straight answer stays on the page.

Will the article run under my name, and who owns it?

Yes, it runs under your byline. The copyright is yours: we take no share of it and no license beyond doing the work you asked for, and the NDA covers what you tell us. For the legal background on commissioned writing, the US Copyright Office publishes a guide to works made for hire.

Do you offer revisions?

Yes, at two points: at the outline, where you can still change the whole direction, and at the draft, where you mark what's wrong in wording, detail or voice and we make the changes. Changes within the brief you agreed don't add to the fee: swapping an example is within it, while turning a how-to into an opinion piece isn't. If the brief itself changes, we requote rather than add to the invoice.

What should I look for in an article writing service?

Look for a published rate, a plain answer on who owns the finished piece, and a named person to deal with. A service that never tells you an article is outside what it does well is a warning sign. Our authors' reviews show what working with us is like.
