Why bother
This is the document a copy editor builds as they go, and the one they hand back with the
manuscript. It is what keeps the second book consistent with the first, and it settles arguments that
would otherwise be relitigated at proof stage.
Record the decision, not the rule. Anyone can look up whether to
hyphenate a compound. Nobody else can know that you spell the dog Bailey and not Baily.
