Robert Hardaway 1946
5 books in the catalogue, published 2003 to 2010.
Robert Hardaway is a professor at the University of Denver's Sturm College of Law and a writer of both legal scholarship and fiction. Western Reflections Publishing carries five of his books: Alienation of Affection (2003), Lily Queen and Papyrus (both 2006), Six Queens Naked (2010) and Dreamlet, which our record places in 2017. Together they show a trial lawyer turned teacher who tells stories about courtrooms, disasters and ancient puzzles.
About Robert Hardaway
According to the University of Denver profile, Hardaway earned his BA at Amherst College in 1968, graduating cum laude, and his JD at New York University in 1971, where he made the Order of the Coif. He served four years in the U.S. Navy JAG Corps, handling civil claims and working as both prosecutor and defense lawyer. Back in Colorado he practiced civil litigation in Denver, worked as a deputy district attorney in Arapahoe County, and served as a deputy public defender handling hundreds of felony cases, death penalty cases among them.
He joined the University of Denver College of Law as a clinical supervisor and later became a tenured professor, teaching civil procedure and evidence. He has been a visiting professor at Hastings and at Washington University. The profile says he has written fourteen published books on law and public policy, 29 articles and more than 75 newspaper opinion pieces, and that his recent work includes docudramas and law-related fiction and novels. Open Library gives his birth year as 1946.
Books
Alienation of Affection
The 2003 book, 272 pages, dramatizes the 1911 killing at Denver's Richthofen Castle and the murder trial of Gertrude Patterson. It is the one with a true case behind it and the one closest to Hardaway's courtroom career.
Six Queens Naked
A 2010 novel catalogued as action and adventure and as historical fiction. Our record has no plot summary, so we say nothing about its plot.
Lily Queen
A 2006 novel of 272 pages about a factory worker who survives the 1911 Triangle Shirtwaist fire in New York and then rises to wealth and fame. The fire is real; her story is invented.
Papyrus
A 2006 suspense novel of 250 pages that links a modern murder to a puzzle about Queen Nefertiti and a priceless artifact. Egyptology and Egypt fiction are its catalogue subjects.
Dreamlet
A 2017 book credited to Hardaway on the publisher's old store page. There is no description or subject on record, so this page lists it without saying what it is about.
What the books share
The four books we publish split into one trial and three adventures, yet they share a taste for events where law, money and secrets collide. Alienation of Affection stays in Denver in 1911, while Lily Queen moves to New York after the Triangle fire. Papyrus goes to ancient Egypt and Nefertiti, and Six Queens Naked is catalogued as historical adventure. A courtroom habit runs through them: each story asks what happened, who knew it and who will pay. Real events anchor two of the books, the Richthofen Castle case and the fire. The others borrow history as a backdrop for invented plots. A fifth book, Dreamlet, has no description on file, so we say nothing about its story.
